Employees make giving look easy!  Many employers will match tax-deductible charitable contributions made by their employees, retirees, and employees’ spouses. Some provide matching funds to support employee volunteer hours.  And others add additional donations to support events around the work their team members are doing.

• Bequest in your will or revocable trust
• Gift of life insurance naming St. Croix Valley Habitat for Humanity as the beneficiary

• Many people have life insurance policies that they originally took out to protect mortgages that have since been paid or educational plans that have been completed.  Such policies make excellent charitable gifts.  Alternatively, you may decide to assure a large gift by purchasing a new insurance policy.  If you name St. Croix Valley Habitat for Humanity as the irrevocable owner and beneficiary, the premiums are tax deductible.

 A gift of real estate offers you the opportunity to make a significant charitable contribution with a tax-friendly outcome. There are several ways to donate real estate.

1. Outright Gift: An outright gift may be the simplest solution if you own property that is not mortgaged, has appreciated in value and that you no longer need or use. You can deduct the fair market value of your gift and avoid capital gains taxes. 
2. Retained life estate: You can transfer the deed of your personal residence or farm and keep the right to use the property for your lifetime. You will receive a current charitable deduction in an amount based upon your and your spouse’s life expectancy and the value of the property.
3. Bargain sale: A bargain sale can generate a gift that is less than the full fair market value of the property. The difference between the sale price and the fair market value is your charitable deduction.
